Our Team

The Nasreen and Alam Sher Foundation is run by an eight member board of directors. Some of the board members also hold positions such as, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, etc. The N.A. Sher Foundation also hold presence in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Each of the South Asian countries is represented by a vice president, with a vote. Every decision is made based on a majority vote. After receiving its 501(c) (3) status, the foundation started to accept donations.

Dr. alam Sher, President/CO-founder

Alam Sher, PharmD, MBA is a clinical pharmacist at the Togus Mental Health Clinic, Maine VA Healthcare System. With the VA, he has held other positions such as Chief of Pharmacy and Research and Development Coordinator. He received his B. Pharmacy degree from Karachi University (UoK), Pakistan and a PharmD from Creighton University, Omaha, Ne. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va. He completed a residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice with the University of Texas, Austin, Tx.
Over the years, Dr. Sher has held numerous Adjunct academic appointments as Adj. Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Hershey Medical College, Penn State University, Hershey, Pa. Presently he holds an adjunct faculty position with 5 pharmacy and medical colleges, for example, a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine (Psychiatry) position at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of University of New England, Maine and an Adj. Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Boston. He was also assigned as a Higher Education Commission of Pakistan’s (HEC) Visiting Scholar to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Alternative Medicine of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan. He is the founding editor of a newsletter for the College of Pharmacy, The University of New England, Maine. He is also on the editorial board of 2 journals, The Journal of Pharmacy and Alternative Medicine and The Pakistan Journal of Health Research. His alma mater, the UoK, presented him with an award for his services to humanity in 2010. He was also nominated for the Veterans Affairs prestige award “The Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals (Sammies)” for 2013, He is the co-founder of the N A Sher Foundation.
He is married to Nasreen Akhtar Sher and has two grown children and a two grandchildren. When not working, he enjoys playing tennis, reciting poetry, traveling and spending time with his family.

Nasreen Sher, Co-Founder

Nasreen Akhtar Sher, is co-founder and member Board of Directors of the Nasreen and Alam Sher Foundation (NASF). Her compassion and concern for the others is the main reason and driving force behind inception and successes of the NA Sher Foundation. She has worked tirelessly in promoting missions and vision of the NASF, for example, working long hours at the foundation sponsored free eye camps and many other foundation related activities including fund-raising. She is epitome of a 'giving' person.
She attended Government High School, Samanabad, Lahore, Pakistan. For many years, Nasreen has been working at Stepping Stones Montessori School, Chelsea, Maine. She loves her job and enjoys being around children. Nasreen is very sociable and a gifted organizer who loves cleanliness and cooking. She is married to Alam Sher and has two grown children and two grandchildren.

Hannah Sher, Vice President/Treasurer

Hannah Aisha Sher, NASF Vice President, has been involved with NASF activities since its inception. She was NASF vice president for the youth wing for 5 years before getting elected to the vice president position. Hannah has actively participated in many NASF humanitarian and fund-raising activities such as free eye camps, mass weddings, Sufi festival, etc. She has also been invited to give promotional talks and slide presentations on the NASF by several universities and colleges in Maine.
Hannah is a full-time artist & photographer. She is also an accomplished self-taught Kathak and Bollywood style dancer. She has been invited to perform at many state-wide gatherings.

Carrie Gervais, secretary

Carrie Walls Gervais is co-director of Stepping Stones Montessori School in Chelsea, Maine. The school was created in 2001 and has grown to an enrollment of 72 students, encompassing Grades Pre-K through 8. Previously, Carrie taught grades K, 1, and 5 at Hall-Dale schools. Carrie graduated from the University of Southern Maine as Outstanding Senior Woman, in 1988. She was a member of the prestigious Maine Academy for School Leaders. Carrie also coordinated the Maine Ending Hunger Now Campaign from 1991-1994. This campaign led to the Maine Credit Unions ongoing commitment to ending hunger in Maine. Carrie is the mother of three children, Tessa, Gabe, and Ian. She is married to Mike Gervais and lives in Chelsea.

Dr. Sultan Ali, medical & health director

Dr. Sultan Ali completed his residency at Liaquat National Medical Center after graduating from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his ophthalmology fellowship at the College of Physician and Surgeons of Pakistan and at the International College of Surgeons, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Ali held numerous positions, including Medical Superintendent and Associate Ophthalmic Surgeon at the world famous Spencer Eye Hospital. Alongside his medical practice, Dr. Ali has held various medical faculty positions at medical colleges throughout Karachi, Pakistan. He has operated on over 100,000 patients in his astounding career. He has performed surgeries in many south Asian countries and Iran. One of his five sons, Dr. Zaheer Sultan, is following in his footsteps, performing surgeries at free eye camps sponsored by the NASF. Many newspapers and magazines, including TIME magazine, have written extensively about his humanitarian work. Dr. Ali has been very altruistic throughout his life and entire career.

roger pomerleau, Event Coordinator

Roger Pomerleau is an Augusta Maine native with a 40 year career in retail and wholesale businesses. He has dedicated thousands of hours in volunteering in the local community. He is excited to work with NASF because he feels its an opportunity to take his volunteer efforts to a global level. He is hoping to raise funds through promoting the music of South Asia and getting all the proceeds from the sales to the foundation.

Nazeer Ahmed, VIce President Paksitan

Nazeer Ahmed, NASF vice president for Pakistan, retired after working many years as an electrician in the UAE. He now lives in Lahore with his family. Mr. ahmed is very active in his community. He is secretary/treasurer for his local mosque. Nazir has volunteered his time in promoting and overseeing almost all NASF activities in Pakistan. He is a grandfather and lives with his family in Lahore, Pakistan.

SHreya Jani, Vice president India

Shreya Jani has multiple degrees to her name. A BA in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University along with a B.Ed from Central Institute of Education, Delhi University. She also has a Diploma in Conflict Transformation and Peace Building from Lady Shir Ram College. Shreya is the first Indian to receive a Masters in Peace Education which she completed at the United Nations Mandated University of Peace, Costa Rica. She was invited to the World Education Forum in Spain in 2011 as a member of the Global Youth Team for Evaluating the Decade of Culture of Peace, in which she presented the Asia evaluation report for the decade. This report was also presented at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
She is the founder and managing trustee of STEP. Standing Together to Enable Peace Trust (STEP) is a non-profit organization established in Delhi in 2009. STEP works with teacher, youth and children, in conflict zone and risk communities, to directly empower leadership and innovation.
Shreya has actively been involved in promoting Peace Education at a governmental level with contributions to NCERT’s first English manual on peace education for teachers- ‘Ways to Peace’ published in 2010 and translated into 3 other regional languages by NCERT. She has also co-authored two books for teachers on ecology with renowned ecologist Dr. Vandana Shiva.
